Day 3 of the
Amateur Athletic Union Taekwondo Nationals continued
the record of excellence Team Washington has set. 5
July was a full day of Adult Poomse (Forms)
competition and Team Washington swept the field
again clinching five medals: Master Ric Gordon:
Gold, Mr Patrick Mears: Gold, Ms Tracey Wirth: Gold;
Mr Eduardo Fernandez: Silver, and Mr Nicky Vacca:
Bronze. Congratulations to all! July 6th, Day
4 of competition, will be Youth Poomse (Forms) and
promises to be another spectacular performance!
4 July
- Youth Olympic Sparring
The Fourth
of July proved to be another "golden" day for Team
Washington on Day 2 of the Amateur Athletic Union
Taekwondo Nationals. Mr. Kelechi Fletcher took first
place in the Youth, 12-13 yr old, Black Belt,
Olympic Sparring Division and Ms Brilynn Schenk also
took Gold in the Youth, 12-13 yr old, Beginners,
Olympic Sparring Division. Mr. Eudoro Fernandez took
a Silver medal in Youth Sparring and Mr. Antonio
Diaz took a Bronze medal. Day 3 promises to be
equally exciting with Adult Forms competition all
day.
3 July
- Adult Olympic Sparring
Team
Washington strikes Gold! Day 1 of the Amateur
Athletic Union Taekwondo Nationals encompassed a
full day of adult Olympic Sparring. Master Ric
Gordon, the Head Instructor for Northwest Taekwondo
Association based out of Spanaway, Washington, led
off with the first match of the day. After six
rounds against two competitors, he took the first
Gold medal of the day for Team Washington. Mr.
Patrick Mears and Ms Tracey Wirth quickly added two
more gold medals to the list after defeating
opponents in their respective divisions. Mr. Don
Schenk took a Silver Medal after three grueling
matches. Mr. DJ Wiley took another Silver Medal and
Mr. Nicky Vacca took a Bronze medal in an extremely
competitive Black Belt division. Tomorrow promises
to bring home more medals to Washington State as the
Youth Olympic Sparring competition begins.
2 July
Team Washington, led by Master
Ric Gordon, checked in today in Ft Lauderdale,
Florida, to compete in the Amateur Athletic Union
Taekwondo Nationals in Olympic Sparring (full
contact), Point Sparring, and Poomse (forms)
competition. Members of Team Washington have
competed at the District and Regional levels winning
their divisions to now represent the State of
Washington against 2,000 National-level competitors
in 5 days of grueling competition. In previous
years, Team Washington won over 45 medals to include
20 Gold Medals in divisions from ages 7 to 50 and
from Yellow Belt to 6th DAN Black Belt. After 10
months of intensive training, this year's team is
ready to "bring home the gold" yet again!
